Find Your Hammer (Lessons From Thor)

In Norse or Scandinavian mythology, Thor is a humanity-protecting god associated with lightning, thunder, storms and strength. Some have associated him with healing and fertility. But I think the most fascinating thing about the mythical super-hero is his hammer, Mjolnir. If you have read the books or watched the movies, you find it rather intriguing that even the powerful, incredible Hulk couldn’t lift Thor’s hammer (Yeah, I know about the one animation in which Hulk lifts it, but you get my point). The point is that the hammer could only be lifted by Thor. And even he had to be in the right ‘worthy’ state to lift it.

Thor's hammer bore the following inscription, “Whosoever holds this hammer, if he be worthy, shall possess the power of Thor.”. Thor’s power lay in his hammer. Without his hammer, anyone with average strength could defeat him. The hammer didn’t just give him strength, it made him unique.

What if you found your own hammer? A hammer only you could weld. A hammer that you couldn’t weld in selfishness, arrogance or deceit. What if you found the very core of your strength? What if you found the one thing or set of things that could give you the most impact? What if you found your purpose and deployed it to it fullest extent?

You see, you have a unique hammer. You have strengths that, if deployed, could change the known world. There are things you may have relegated to the ‘hobby’ closet that needs to be polished and deployed. There are strengths that have been ignored that need to be used. There are muscles that have atrophied that need to be stretched, exercised and built up. There is something in you that has much more power than Thor’s Mjolnir.

How different would your world be if you could deploy the power of your purpose and life’s calling? So find your hammer and weld it proudly. Find that hammer only you are worthy to lift and change the world forever!
